The controversy surrounding Salvator Mundi, attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, involves debates over its authenticity, restoration, provenance and the circumstances of its record-breaking sale. While many experts and institutions, including the National Gallery in London, attribute the painting to Leonardo, some art historians and critics argue that it may have been created by his workshop or assistants rather than Leonardo himself.

In 2017, Salvator Mundi sold at Christie's for $450.3 million, making it the most expensive artwork ever sold. Its high price sparked ongoing debates about art attribution, the art market, and Leonardo’s legacy.
